FRANCIS'S BLOG 04/22/2026
It was 68 here today and sunny!
But still it was not the 75 degrees that it was three weeks ago in San Diego. Here I was sunbathing and refereeing an impromptu volleyball game:
Misty Misbehaves. 😠
Iris’s mishap with the gate yesterday was her not-so-subtle way of saying she’s had enough of "ad-seg” and is demanding to join “gen-pop.” However Misty is not so sure and has been nipping poor Iris whenever she can. Thanks to a few administrative threats with the riding crop, Misty has seen the light and is happy to have Iris back in the herd—at least as long as the cat cops are watching. Therefore Iris will continue to spend her nights in RC’s stall for the foreseeable future. 🐴
Iris’s Boo-Boo. 😳
Well, here’s how we found miss Iris this evening (Stormy and Charlie are snickering in the background):
She knocked down the fence out to the front pasture (why she waits for weeks without bothering things, then goes on the dismantling mission is beyond us). Trouble was, she got her legs in such a position that she couldn’t lift them up once she got them down:
Anyway, the cat cops lowered the fence and the rope all the way to the ground and she stepped out with ease. We’ll give her that she kept her composure and stood patiently while help arrived (but she was very embarrassed).
Luigi and Tux tangled this morning—
—big time. 🙀 I think they both felt like the dog that finally caught the car. Tux already has an ear that has been shortened by battle and Luigi left it bleeding again. For a while we thought Luigi got the worst of the grapple because he hid under the car for a while and coughed, but he’s ok. Tux vacated the premises for the day, but it appears he at least walked away with two eyes and four paws.
In nicer news, Mary visited us this afternoon🐎. She noticed Stormy had a big cut on his shoulder😿 so she patched him up😸.
Want a picture? Here’s a picture of Uki when she visited us this past Sunday. It was taken during the 5-10 picoseconds that she wasn’t whining or eating something disgusting. In her favor, though, she does have an emoticon:🐕

Iris glamour shot (does she take any other kind?)
Both Iris and Stormy are back in their blankets, because our mornings are back in the teens.
Luigi drinks from Iris’s water buckets—
—guess the cat dish had a visit from a raccoon or possum last night. 🙀 Don’t worry, Luigi, we’ll go change it right now!
We Know Kellen Will Get Well Soon! 😃
We just heard that our new best friend Kellen was admitted to St Francis Hospital in Peoria. We all know Kellen will get well and be home soon! Here it is straight from the horse’s (RC’s) mouth:
Kanna had a hard night! 😿
It doesn’t look like she is very sick or hurt, but Kanna was not herself this morning. For one, she was not her usual bright-eyed self:
She looks like she tussled with someone because was muddy-muddy! 🙀
She furthermore did not come out with the rest of the cats (to demand breakfast), nor did she exhibit much appetite (somebody also threw up their Paté—but Sly is famous for that). Hopefully we will find Kanna feeling better tomorrow!
Here I am at Pacific Beach!
This tractor comes every morning to scoop up the kelp that washes up during the night. It was also nice enough to scoop up after me:
Here I am on vacation, resting my hooves at the San Diego Zoo—
—waiting patiently for the Warthog-From-Planet-X to get done at the water fountain:
I’m back. 🐴
Just in time to assist the rest of the horses in the supervision of all the new telephone poles going up:
I’m off until Saturday—but make sure you didn’t miss the post regarding Iris’s return.
I need a vacation:
Iris is back! 🐎
Iris returned to the bosom of the herd last night (Saturday). Here she is after spending the night in RC’s stall:
And here she is in administrative segregation (under the barn) until the rest of us can abate our excitement in having her back:
And in this short video, Chavez and Stormy help her get used to people picking at her blanket, which will happen now that she’s back from school:
Waiter, there’s a cat on my hay.
But then again, there’s almost always a cat on my hay. Luigi must think he’s a garnish, like parsley.
Henry, the DHS never sleeps!
Here is an image of Henry taken from the latest security camera installed by the AHF DHS (Department of Horseland Security). Coming this summer—drones!
