FRANCIS'S BLOG 04/22/2026

Sly spends the night at the top of hay mountain.

Henry had a boo-boo nose

The black λ on Henry’s otherwise fluffy white snout is a cut we noticed a few days ago.  The cut’s not that bad but it came with a bump, like he got a thump on the nose by something (or some hoof - I’m innocent of course because my feet don’t go up that high).  But Ann put some TriCare on the cut, and the swelling has gone down a lot!

As herbivores, you can imagine that Thanksgiving doesn’t do much for us. But you’ll be happy to know that. . .

Chilly evening. . .

. . .but it still took a lot of calling to convince us to come in from the far pasture. In other news, poor Schrödinger has been limping for the past several days. He’ll go to the vet next week if he’s not any better.  He’s been fond of climbing up and down a ramp of boards we have in the stable. Maybe he fell off it?We don’t think any of us stepped on him (no one’s ‘fessing up so far).

Luigi stretches his ability to look dignified. . .

. . .over the manure cart.

Oh boy, anybody that knows Luigi knows that Schroeder is playing with fire!

Horses play (I think).

RC and Chavez go at each other around the 20-second mark of this video. Whatever, people.

Oh, now here’s something unusual. . .

. . .normally alpha cat Luigi and alpha cat wannabe Schrödinger spend breakfast hissing and taking swings at each other. But this morning they were spotted sharing breakfast.Even when Zelda pulled out as intermediary, cool heads prevailed.Maybe it’s the salmon paté?

Tux sighting!

Neither the formalwear nor the medicated pad, this Tux as we know is a neighbor’s cat that visits on occasion and has been known to spend the night. Schrödinger got a chance to meet him and was decidedly impressed with his black-and-whiteness.

Charlie got her mane frosted this morning. . .

. . .by real frost!

Luigi discovers the legendary “cien libras lata de comida para gatos.”

No picture for this one. . .

. . .just a little news.  When we were fed tonight at about 4:30, it was discovered that poor Schrödinger had been locked in the feed shed this morning at about 8:00. When will these stupid cats learn that kitty-kitty-kitty means KITTY-KITTY-KITTY?  At least he didn’t seem any worse for wear, and had probably dozed the day away on a bed of our fly masks.

Here I am having lunch:

Schrödinger proves he’s a true member of the glaring at AHF. . .

. . .he’s great at giving dirty looks:

Today is eleven, twelve, thirteen!

We are still glowing from our visit with Jordyn and Logan last Sunday.  Both of them rode great!  Here’s a video of Jordyn riding RC.  It’s perfectly precious!

No lazy grazing in the pasture this evening.

It was 48 this morning but now it’s 32 and snowing.  We’re all huddling in the stable waiting for dinner tonight.

What a surprise! Jordyn and Logan are here!

Jordyn and Logan visited us this evening to ride RC!

Jordyn is four years old, and already riding like a champion.  She knows a beautiful, confident smile is part of the performance:Here she and Mary discuss RC’s pattern:Everyone thinks Jordyn did a great job and is on her way to being an accomplished horsewoman.  RC thinks so too!

Logan rides RC next, but first he gets a visit from Bear, who belongs to our friend Rich:Logan and Mary discuss RC’s pattern:He’s a good rider and puts RC through his paces unassisted:

Everyone will sleep well tonight!  What a nice way to spend a chilly evening. Jordan and Logan are our favorite people!

Scary cat face.

Kanna says,

“Get my breakfast and you can have your car back."

Lilo says,

“Please stop reminding us that this is an old dog bed."

After-breakfast hay for Henry

Henry has a bin all to himself this morning.  It’s supposed to rain this afternoon and all day tomorrow, but right now (8:20) the weather is nice. And Henry says right now is all that matters.

A hidden surprise in every stall.

This is very impressive, RC - you got back there and didn’t knock over a thing.Oh wow, from this angle we see it was very impressive for you too, Chavez.

England pics 5-12: Buckingham Palace! (I’m in two of the pictures. It’s your job to find me!)

Schrödinger is back and OK!

He had his shots and his operation.  Since it was almost dark, and he still was a little groggy, he spent last night in the tack room.  Here’s Kanna checking out his accommodations (and demonstrating why we can’t set traps for the raccoons):He’s out this morning and back on patrol:

Oh, this is lovely. . . .

Looks like somebody wasn’t quite ready to get out of the Halloween spirit:

Yep, looks like somebody knocked over a manure cart and a spool of stall liner:

Yep, looks like somebody wanted access to the hay back here and/or a fun place to poop:Had to have been one of the cats. . . .
