FRANCIS'S BLOG 03/23/25

We didn’t get a new kitten⎯we know where it lives and it has a collar 😺

This kitten comes over from the neighbors about once a day:It’s quite a little spitfire and will stare down anybody:

Sometimes I feel like I’m taken for granted 🐴

“Why, of course I’ll hold your gloves like I’m a workbench⎯NOT!  How about if I take off running the next time you do this, say, when it’s about 15 below?”In other news, our Henry picked up a nasty boo-boo on his forehead, probably courtesy of Stormy:

Hungry horsies 🐎

I suppose Charlie, Chavez and RC have to come up for air sooner or later:Here’s a little video of the manic munching (the squeaking is our Bill pulling the manure cart):

Headless hens (not really) 🐔

Minnie and Dot are moving farther and farther under the hay barn to find dry dust to bathe in.  Let’s hope they don’t meet a sleeping raccoon:

It’s a rainy Thanksgiving, but at least it’s in the 50’s 🐴

The snow is all gone for the time being:The ducks are waiting their turn at the buffet:

We’re having mud for Thanksgiving 🐴

Now this is something we haven’t seen. Dot jumped into one of the high nesting boxes to lay her egg.  Only the brown hens (R.I.P) used to do this. 🐔

The snow is melting (There are a bunch of snowed-over poopies about to reveal themselves)! Anyway. . . . 🐴

Happiness is a warm car hood:

Most of us don’t mind the snow 🐴

The ducks don’t mind the snow:The kitties don’t mind the snow:The Lavenvelders just can’t take it.  Mary helps Hans (or Dietrich) through a breakdown:

The blog was closed yesterday due to snow 🐴

If I could have gotten to the computer yesterday, I would have told you that Tux showed up on Friday!  Where on earth does he go all during the summer? Here is our Tux Saturday afternoon in 8” of snow:Why did the first snow of the year have to be the worst (we can only hope). None of us were very amused:But the afternoon was nice compared to the mess that was that morning:Anyway, this (Sunday) morning, L’Orange, Paschal and Pooter (who weren’t even eggs this time last year) got their first taste of snow:Hansel, Gretel, and whatever the other one is called, decided it was better to stay inside:Fernando, Daisy and Percy, however, are old hands at this:They were quite grateful, though, that Mara and Mary put up their heat lamps last night, as it went down to about 10℉.

Wind blown dinner 🐴

It was so windy Thursday night that Mary and Mara gave us our hay in the feed bins.  We haven’t used them in so long, we had to be reminded where they were:

Trash can down 😾

Kanna discovers the recycle bin on its side, and its contents strewn over the yard:DHS Security Chief Luigi declares it a Class A Act of Wind:”Nothing to see here, citizens.”Just FYI, a Class B Act of Wind is something the horses commit in the stable after feeding time:

We can’t wait for Dukie! (Internet down yesterday) 🐴

Aunt Susie has a new, female black labrador puppy named Dukie:We can hardly wait to meet her.  Watch out chickens!

Sophia rides Chavez! 🐎

Stormy and Iris fly 🐎

Cantankerous Cat 😾

It’s only 8:20 in the morning and already Luigi is having a bad-ear day:

Avant-garde duck digs 🐴

L’Orange, Paschal and Pooter will spend the winter in this fashion-forward duck igloo:

Windy chilly day 🐴

This morning was super windy.  The trash cans and the port-a-potty blew over.  We had to chase our breakfast hay all over the pasture.  The only people with a secure place to eat were the cats and chickens:

Fowl news 🐔

The spring chickens explore the riding circle:And the little hen is practicing to lay an egg:

“Ro-meow, Oh, Ro-meow. . .” 😺

Zelda and Lynx rehearse for the AHF Theater’s winter presentation of Ro-meow and Juliet:

Hang on Mary! 💛

Iris anticipates an earthquake:

Everybody loves Bill 💛

Only Bill can get Luigi and Schrödinger on the same lap:Heck, he can even get Schroeder and his arch-enemy (not really), Lynx, to play nice:

Duck practical jokes 🐴

L’Orange and Paschal laid their eggs right inside the door sill this morning:Watch your step! 🐴

This is not what it looks like 🐴

No, these chickens are not potty-training:It’s just their daytime roosting place. 🐔

Iris takes up bird watching 🐎

“Halloween is over, Pooter, stop playing Dracula.””Go get him, Percy."

Fowl news 🐔

Hansel (or whatever they’re calling this buzzard 🐴) is running off with something that looks like a—well, I’m not sure. . .Oh, it’s what the cats left of a sparrow:Trust me, ducks, you don’t want any of that:

Autumn is here! 🍂

Halloween may be over, but we have Evil Cat all year round:In other news, it’s ferrier day, so everyone’s on lock-down and I have the run of the place:

Cock-a-doodle-mew 😺

Above we see Lynx wolfing down the birds’ layer feed.”You can expect a brown egg at any moment."

Here’s our Halloween album! 🐴
